Staff must evaluate each incident to determine if immediate emergency action is required. If the incident involves any of the following scenarios, it is imperative to contact emergency services – specifically the Police and, if needed, ambulance services – must be contacted without delay by dialing 999:
If a child or vulnerable adult is in immediate danger or requires urgent medical care.
If a serious crime such as theft, rape, or severe physical assault is currently being committed.
If a serious crime has recently occurred, the perpetrator is still nearby, or there is a continued risk to others.
If there are threats to commit a serious crime.
Remember, the Police, NSPCC, and Children’s Services possess the legal authority for the immediate protection of children. Staff should remain on the premises until the Police arrive, unless their own health and safety are at risk.
