East Lancs CC is one of the oldest cricket clubs in the north of England and based opposite Corporation Park on Alexandra Meadows, Dukes Brow in Blackburn.
The venue is used for a range of sports including Cricket, Bowls, Squash and Table Tennis. It is also home the East Lancs Eagles – the juniors sides.
It is also hosts Fun Days, Barbecues, Tournaments and an annual charity bonfire which is attended by thousands. There venue is ideally located in the heart of Blackburn with parking.
Did you know?
The club was founded in 1864 by officers of the East Lancashire Regiment.
Between 1878 and 1881 the ground was used as the home venue for the Blackburn Rovers. The first Rovers match at the Meadows took place in 1878 against Partick Thistle.
The venue also hosted one match by the England national football team; a game against Wales played on 26 February 1881, a 1–0 win giving Wales their maiden international victory. East Lancs were the first champions of the Lancashire League in 1891. In the early 1900’s banking was created around the pitch so that in winter it could be flooded for a public ice-rink!
In the heyday of the Lancashire League the ground hosted the superstars of cricket including Sir Everton Weekes and Sir Viv Ricards who turned out for local clubs.
Australian cricketing legend Allan Border played for East Lancs in the late seventies.
Historically, East Lancashire Cricket Club which has won the league 14 times and the Worsley Cup competition 18 times – more than any other club.
The club made a commitment to continue to serve the local community and be used as a sporting venue after it was acquired by the MEDT charity which also helps to run Bangor Street Community Centre.
